The last in the trio of polymer clay Christmas gifts.
This one is for my Mum to continue her collection of polymer clay peacocks, continuation from this piece created earlier in the year:
This time I wanted to make an ornament that Mum could wear or hang.
Mum and I have a deep fondness for the artist and sculptor Jay Strongwater [link] and also a large collection of Kirks Folly [link] having been exposed to that level of detail and luxury within "jewels" I've long wanted to try and emulate that in something for Mum. Strongwater's pieces are astoundingly expensive, beautiful as they are, they are the pinnacle of "fashion jewellery" though calling it that seems to cheapen it somewhat. They are jewels, the treasure of dragons and the adornments of Tzarinas.
This sculpt by no means even touches on the majesty of the afformentioned art-houses but it is a little tribute to them. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~ Edit: Forgot to mention the dimentions! 4" long by 1.5" x 0.5" thick. Long and slim
PP has an aluminium core for stability, he has a dichroic glass cabouchon in his body, extensive polymer clay detailing with a very festive helping of glitter embossing powder. Only the green and blue of his eye and the 'eyes' on his tail feathers are painted, everything else is coloured clay. On his reverse I have tried to keep it tidy and neat, his hoop is blue and teal artists wire twisted together and then secured by green glitter hot glue. His beak has gold embossing powder and he is lovingly coated in glossy varnish to protect him and secure all the glitter.
I highly recommend getting embossing powders and trying them with your polymer clay pieces. The oven heats up the powder and fuses it to the clay embedding it. You can also mix the powder into standard clay to create glittery clay.
